Computer Use

HiPMMCode v1.0.0 can reuse the official computer-use plugin already installed by Codex to inspect and operate desktop applications on macOS and Windows. No Codex binary, plugin, or native Computer Use service is copied into a HiPMMCode release.

Requirements

  1. A working local Codex CLI installation;
  2. The official computer-use plugin installed and enabled in Codex;
  3. A supported macOS or Windows environment;
  4. HiPMMCode is not running with --safe-mode or --bare.

Linux remains unavailable until OpenAI provides a compatible native local service.

Enable and inspect

Open the interactive picker:

text
/computer-use

Or use the explicit forms:

text
/computer-use on
/computer-use status
/computer-use off

Enabling persists codexComputerUse=true and immediately rebuilds the current session's skills, tool catalogue, completion entries, and system prompt.

The status view reports the independent HiPMMCode switch, detected Codex plugin version, native connection state, and OS authorization ownership. Use /mcp status for additional connection failure details.

Use it

Once enabled, describe a desktop task naturally:

text
Inspect the current Safari page and summarize its title and main content.

The model receives only HiPMMCode's fixed typed actions: application state, click, drag, scroll, key press, selection, value setting, and text input. The underlying arbitrary-JavaScript node_repl tools are never exposed to the model.

Authorization and safety

  • The native service may request OS permission when an app is accessed for the first time.
  • HiPMMCode scopes approvals by application and conversation; model input cannot widen the grant.
  • Read-only inspection and routine low-impact actions can proceed normally.
  • Sending data, deletion, purchases, and security-setting changes require specific authorization.
  • Credentials, security warnings, CAPTCHA, and high-impact decisions are handed back to the user.
  • --safe-mode and --bare keep the integration disabled.

The native service owns the system Stop Using HiPMMCode control. Plugin discovery alone never implies that desktop permission was granted.

Troubleshooting

  • Plugin not detected: verify the official Codex plugin is installed and enabled, then restart or run /reload-skills.
  • Connection failed: inspect /mcp status and update the local Codex CLI and plugin runtime.
  • No tools after enabling: confirm the session is not strict (--safe-mode / --bare), run /computer-use status, then /reload-skills if needed.
